Installing and Configuring AppFabric v6.1


AppFabric v6.1 can be downloaded here. Note the system requirements for AppFabric:
  • Supported Operating Systems:
    • Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Vista
  • Supported Architectures:
    • 32-bit (x86)
    • 64-bit (x64)
  • Hardware requirements:
    • Minimum Hard Disk Space: 2GB
    • Computer with an Intel Pentium-compatible CPU that is 1 GHz or faster for single processors; 900 MHz or faster for dual processors; or 700 MHz or faster for quad processors.

In addition to the web server tools that are installed as a part of AppFabric, you also have the option of creating or pointing to SQL Server data stores for Monitoring, Persistence, and Caching. For development environments, caching is not necessary, but you are strongly encouraged to configure Monitoring and Persistence stores so you can test this functionality in your development environment. The AppFabric installation process walks you through the creation of these databases. For convenience, it is suggested to name the monitoring and persistence databases as AppFabricMonitoring and AppFabricPersistence, respectively as this will align with the sample configuration file included in this documentation.

In order to resume suspended workflows, you will need to make sure the 'Net.Pipe Listener Adapter' service is started. You may also need to set its startup type to 'Automatic (Delayed Start)' to ensure that it starts correclty on system reboot.


Once AppFabric v6.1 has been installed, you will need to then install the following hotfixes:
